Trying to figure out how to dress in winter? Look to your favourite celebs.
Heading into the kind of weather that makes your teeth chatter can play havoc with one’s wardrobe. To help you survive winter in style, take a peek at celebrities’ looks – with full diaries moving from different climates on a weekly (sometimes daily) basis, they’ve got chilled dressing down pat.
For 2012, the first purchase you’ll need to make is a hat – beanies, once loved by the likes of Keira Knightley (who also loves a double-breasted coat), have been replaced by the classic fedora and seen on Jennifer Aniston and Evan Rachel Wood. Next up, invest in a smart blazer – the perfect in-between piece, the likes of Olivia Palermo and Kate Moss show it can keep you warm and smart indoors and double up as sharp outerwear, too. Moss also loves the autumn/winter trend of knee-high boots, as seen on the Prada catwalk, and so do Ashley Olsen and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Worn over jeans, or with a knee-length skirt for a 70s vibe, they’ll keep you warm and stylish.
The surprise hit of the winter, however, is suspiciously practical: the jumper. First coming into vogue thanks to the unlikely style heroine of Detective Sarah Lund from TV series The Killing, a jumper that looks like you got it for the holidays is the height of fashion – see Balenciaga, Isabel Marant and Givenchy for your catwalk references. Think cable knits, Fair Isle or Nordic patterns and mohairs. Alexa Chung, Tilda Swinton and Liv Tyler are already getting cosy. Feel free to join them.
